PBFIA's valuable insights for the plant based companies
Plant based food is the key
Plant-based food insights span diverse areas, revealing that these foods not only nourish with essential nutrients and reduce disease risks, but also champion sustainability by conserving resources and diminishing environmental impact
Market Reports
Plant-based foods are at the forefront of a global shift towards healthier, more sustainable, and ethical food choices. These diets are packed with essential nutrients, including fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, offering significant health benefits such as improved digestion, better weight management, and a reduced risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Research even suggests that individuals on plant-based diets may burn calories faster after meals due to higher fiber content, making these diets a key solution for addressing India’s protein deficiency.
Beyond health, plant-based foods play a crucial role in sustainability. Compared to animal agriculture, they require far fewer resources—dramatically reducing land use, water consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. For example, producing one kilogram of beef consumes up to 20,000 liters of water, while the same amount of lentils requires just 1,300 liters. Additionally, plant-based farming enhances soil health, as crops like lentils and chickpeas naturally replenish nitrogen, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers.
While challenges remain, such as consumer confusion over plant-based alternatives, the rise of plant-based foods signals a transformative change in the way we eat. By embracing plant-based diets, individuals, businesses, and policymakers can collectively contribute to a healthier planet and a more sustainable food system.
Experts Metrics
From an environmental perspective, several metrics stand out. The amount of water required to produce different foods varies significantly; producing 1 kilogram of beef requires approximately 15,000 to 20,000 liters of water, while 1 kilogram of lentils requires only about 1,300 liters and 1 kilogram of chickpeas about 1,500 liters. Plant-based meats like Beyond and Impossible Burgers produce significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions than beef (89% to 90%), reduce land use (93% to 96%), and lower water consumption (87% to 99%)
The hub of educational thought leadership
The Plant Based Foods Industry Association (PBFIA) is involved in education in several ways. These include fostering educational initiatives, setting industry standards, and engaging with stakeholders. PBFIA’s focus on informing and guiding the plant-based foods sector means that it takes on a leadership role by promoting knowledge and best practices
